A Northampton dad said he was frightened when he saw how precariously balanced his chimney stack was left following a storm.

John O’Sullivan, who lives in Primrose Hill, was alarmed by a loud rumble and found some chimney pots and roof had fallen into his loft and neighbours property.

But on inspecting the roof, he saw how close the family had come to disaster, with the entire chimney ready to collapse into the three-storey house.

Mr O’Sullivan said: “My son was doing his homework in the room below the loft when the rubble fell.

“We thought that was an earthquake. If the entire chimney came down, there’s no doubt it could easily have come through all three floors.

“The experts from Abington Roofing who came out said that had happened at a similar house nearby.

“Looking at it afterwards, I have to say I was rather frightened.”
