Royal & Derngate is opening a new bar later this year in a nearby retail unit in Northampton’s Cultural Quarter.

The bar, which will specialise in craft beers, will be based in a unit on the corner of Guildhall Road and Swan Street. The plans will create six jobs, a spokesperson for the theatre said.

“The new bar will specialise in local, regional and international craft beers. Offering a stylish and relaxed setting, and a very warm welcome, it will extend the facilities on offer for audiences, as well as catering to non-

attenders,” the spokesperson said.

“The bar is expected to open six days a week, from 5pm, with outdoor seating planned on the widened Guildhall Road.

“Work has started on fitting out the new bar, with One 17, the designers responsible for the Errol Flynn Filmhouse, working closely with the theatre to deliver the project,” the spokesperson added.

Chief executive of Royal & Derngate, Martin Sutherland, said: “The success of the Errol Flynn Filmhouse has proved there is an appetite for a wider variety of leisure and cultural activities in the town centre.

“I hope this new development will make a positive contribution to the ongoing development of the night-time economy, offering a welcoming environment for people to enjoy a few drinks with friends and colleagues.”
