Friends of a man from Northampton, who was murdered in Florida three years ago, are planning to run around Pitsford Reservoir to raise money for a charity in his memory.
Former Northampton School for Boys pupil James Kouzaris, aged 24, and his friend James Cooper, aged 25, were shot dead while walking through a low-income housing project after a night out in Sarasota, Florida, in April, 2011.
The charity, Always A Chance, was set up to help young people at risk of being involved in violent crime, in memory of the two men by Paul Davies and Joe Hallett, who went to school with Mr Kouzaris.
To raise money for the charity a Jog For James event will be held at Pitsford Reservoir on Saturday, July 19 from 11am.
Participants will pay to run 10km or walk two miles.
One of the organisers, Geoff Hallett, said the event was being held at the reservoir because it was a place where Mr Kouzaris liked to run.
He said: “The run will start and finish at a memorial bench at the reservoir for James. The event will be a day after James’s birthday and will be a celebration of his life.”
The entry fee for the event is £10 for adults, £5 for students and under 12s can enter free. Medals will be presented to all finishers. For more information or to enter the event, contact geoffronhallett@ hotmail.co.uk
