The cause of a large fire at a garage in Kingsthorpe, which caused a set of oil barrels to explode and saw nearby shops evacuated is being investigated by police.

Officers have appealed for witnesses to come forward following the blaze at Quick Auto Services in Ruskin Road sometime between 2.05pm and 2.30pm on Wednesday, August 19.

The fire, which eyewitnesses reported as having started outside, caused extensive damage to the garage and a neighbouring house as well as three cars, though it is not known how it started.

At the time of the fire, several roads had to be closed in the area while 35 firefighters tackled the blaze.

Witnesses, or anyone who knows anything about this incident, are being asked to call Northamptonshire Police on 101.
