Carlsberg is planning to open a new 640,000 sq ft warehouse and distribution hub in a Northampton industrial estate, creating 50 new jobs,
A planning proposal has been submitted to Northampton Borough Council revealing the new site will be on land near the Brackmills Point scheme, south of Bedford Road.
The developer Roxhills said the plans will ‘secure’ 180 exisiting jobs in the region, including the site in Bridge Street, Northampton, which comprises one of Carlsberg’s two main breweries in the UK as well as a bottling plant. The new unit will also create 50 new jobs, Roxhills said.
A planning document, put together by estate agents Savills, says: “The occupier has confirmed that the proposed development will directly create approximately 50 new full time equivalent jobs and will safeguard 180 jobs from existing distribution operations, which will be relocated to the site. “Indirect jobs will be supported by the spending on goods, supplies and services by Carlsberg with firms within the surrounding area.
“The spending of wages both by employees of Carlsberg and of the local firms supplying goods to the company will also support indirect employment in local shops, services and other firms.”
The 21 metre-high unit will have 585,088 sq ft of warehouse space, with 21,528 sq ft of mezzanine as well as a four-storey 26,996 sq ft office block. There will be an additional 140,000 sq ft yard for storage as well as parking for 130 trailers and 307 cars.
The 43.8 acre triangular site will be extensively landscaped and Carlsberg will own and run the facility once it is built.
Completion is scheduled for Spring 2015 with a view to fully opening in Autumn 2015.
