More than 200 people attended a debate in Northampton organised by campaigners wanting to leave the EU.

The meeting, held on Friday at Franklin’s Gardens, was a Question Time-style event.

The panel was made up of East Midlands UKIP MEP Margot Parker, Kettering MP Philip Hollobone, of Grassroots Out, Brendan Chilton, from Labour Leave, Freedom Association director Rory Broomfield, of Better Off Out, and former Olympic rower Alex Story, from Leave.eu.

It was chaired by Councillor Phil Larratt and the panel answered questions about the cost of EU membership, housing needs, the NHS and jobs.

Organiser Rose Gibbins said: “We had visitors from as far away as Loughborough, Coventry, Milton Keynes and Nottingham.

“The debates were superb – there was a huge variety of discussions.”

Margot Parker MEP said: “It was fantastic meeting, debating why we should vote to leave the EU in the referendum.”
