A campaign to create a healthier workforce across Northamptonshire launches today.

Healthy Workplace Week, organised by Northamptonshire Sport, aimes to encourage employers to promote and inspire staff to get active.

Sarah Harvey, physical activity co-ordinator at Northamptonshire Sport, said: “We run a fun inter-business competition each month across a range of sports, providing businesses with the opportunity to try fun new sports.

“Mercedes AMG Petronas from Brackley enjoyed huge success over the first year of the programme culminating in them winning our “Active Workplace of the Year” award at our annual Sport awards in 2015.

“They added healthy options to their lunchtime menus, encouraged staff to take part in the eight-week workplace challenge activity tracker in January-February as well as promoting the use of their on site gym for employees.

“Equally Parklands Primary School instil the ethos of a healthy workplace across their school, celebrating pupil and staff sporting achievements and competing in every workplace challenge competition that we run,” she said.

On Wednesday May 18, businesses will be invited to a Health and Wellbeing Network event at Northampton Town Football Club from 8.30am - 11.30am. There will be a variety of services and organisations in attendance offering workplace health and wellbeing solutions, as well as two quick fire seminars covering the topics of ‘Mental Health at Work’ and ‘Fit for the Future’.

The week concludes on SundayMay 22 with a fun 5K race at Irchester Country Park, with a special discounted rate for workplace teams to enter.
