Robbers repeatedly punched a taxi driver in the face as the man waited to receive a fare in a Northampton street.

The driver was parked in Nethermead Court in Lings, Northampton, at about 3am on Sunday, October 25 when he was attacked.

A police spokeswoman said a group of “three or four” white men wearing dark clothes and with their faces covered, approached the cabbie’s car and asked for money.

The driver was then punched in the face and his mobile phone was stolen.

One of the men was also carrying a baseball bat which was used to damage the car.

Following the robbery, the men ran towards Ellfield Court.
