Video News: Valentine’s Day launch of Love Northampton campaign promoting appeal of town

Waiting for Video...

LEADING figures from business, politics and sport in Northampton heralded a bright future for the town at the Valentine’s Day launch of LoveNorthampton.

MP for Northampton South, Brian Binley, voiced his support for the scheme, which will see various authorities and clubs joining forces to promote the town.

The LoveNorthampton website will enable residents, visitors and businesses to find out what’s going on in the town, all in one place.

Shoppers at the launch, held in the Grosvenor Centre yesterday, were asked to feel the love for the town and were given balloons and roses.

Leader of Northampton Borough Council, Councillor David Mackintosh (Con, Rectory Farm), said: “We’ve had a fantastic response. It’s great to see everyone coming together to love Northampton.

“But there’s a serious side as well, to give people the opportunity to find out what’s going on in our town. This gives people one access point and encourages peo-

ple into Northampton. People need to know what Northampton’s about and why we love Northampton.

“We’ve got an awful lot of regeneration going on at the moment which is vital for the future of the town. This shows people how great the town is and it shows people looking to locate what opportunities there are in the town. The future’s looking very positive.”

Mr Binley said the scheme underlined the vitality of Northampton.

He said: “The website will show just how comprehensive the offering is in Northampton. We have two theatres, which is highly unusual for a town the size of Northampton, and we have three professional sports clubs.

“What I say to people of Northampton is enjoy what you’ve got, use what you’ve got and support what you’ve got.”

He said that, as the county town, Northampton belonged to all residents of the county, who should make the most of all it had to offer.

He added: “There’s a real coming together and there’s a real buzz in the town.

“There’s so much happening in Northampton, what we’ve got to do is use it to positive effect for the people of Northampton.”

People do need to to know what Northampton is about Mr Mackintosh...So, whenever there is an upcoming public consultation about something or other, you could actually let people know about it in advance and refer to it a LOVE-IN

I couldn't believe it, BQ, so I listened for myself and he really does say that. What an over-inflated idea he has of himself. God help the town with him in charge. Anyway, the point I actually wanted to make was the lack of any women in the photograph of the leading figures at the launch. Is it "LoveNorthampton" or ManLoveNorthampton?

Interviewer to Monkeytosh: "So tell us what's one of your favourite things about Northampton" Monkeytosh: "Well my great thing is I was born in the town and grew up here." What an arrogant, self-centred idiot!

A new approach--hopefully driven by the young Council Leader of NBC..how do you join up or is it restricted to semi state and friends only?
