Young people in Northampton are being urged to sign up for a town centre apprenticeship scheme to give people a start in their career.
The scheme aims to help young people take their first step into the workplace.
It is a joint partnership between Northampton Borough Council, Northamptonshire Enterprise Partnership, Northampton BID, JobCentre Plus, Connexions, Northampton College and Legal & General.
This week marks National Apprenticeship Week and the call for applicants comes as the first apprentice to take part in the town centre project reaches the halfway stage of their placement.
Tayla Palmer-Smith is now six months into a 12-month business administration and customer service apprenticeship with letting and property management firm, Chelton Brown, which she began in September 2013.
The scheme has created a small number of best-practice placements for young people leaving school at 16 and going straight into the workplace.
A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Enterprise Partnership said: “Now is the time for businesses to recruit an apprentice as there is a huge pool of talent across Northamptonshire.
“The Job Brokerage Service provides a dedicated service to employers, offering free expert advice and support to those looking to recruit apprentices,” she added.
Legal & General currently has a mechanical engineering apprentice employed at the Grosvenor Centre through its facilities management contract, and has provided space within the centre for organisations which are promoting apprenticeships.
