Royal Mail has delivered a target-beating performance in Northamptonshire delivering more than 93 per cent of first class mail the following day between April and June.
Its quarterly Quality of Service report also revealed it exceeded national targets for first class and second class mail in the NN postcode area which covers all Northampton as well as Brackley, Corby, Daventry, Kettering, Rushden, Towcester and Wellingborough.
Royal Mail delivered 93.4 per cent of first class mail the next working day, against a target of 93 per cent and 99 per cent of second class post within three working days, against a target of 98.5 per cent
Royal Mail also beat its first and second class mail quality targets nationally in the first quarter of the 2013/14 financial year, according to independent research.
Royal Mail said new technology and better equipment was being deployed nationwide and the working practices of postmen and women were changing to optimise the network for the increasing volume of parcels and declining volume of letters posted.

“Our postmen and women are delivering to one of the highest and most challenging next-day performance targets in Europe while we are undertaking one of the UK’s biggest transformation projects.”
Two months ago, almost 1,000 postal workers at the UK’s largest mail depot, the South Midlands Mail Centre in Swan Valley, Northampton, were due to be balloted over possible strike action.
The Communication Workers Union said the dispute was over local job cuts, blaming “unsanctioned budget savings targets and poor industrial relations”.
The centre, in Swan Valley, serves Northamptonshire, Milton Keynes, Coventry and Warwickshire.
