Developers who were granted approval to build a supermarket in a busy Northampton road, have submitted new plans to add 56 houses to the scheme.

Councillors gave the go-ahead to the plan on the site of the old W Grose garage, in Kingsthorpe Road, last October, despite objections from nearby residents.

The application from Creaton-based Mulberry Property Developments Ltd was submitted without a development partner. This week the firm entered a new plan to Northampton Borough Council, with a greatly reduced supermarket size and 56 ‘mixed dwellings’.

The residential element of the proposal will be located between the proposed foodstore and Studland Road.

Councillor Sally Beardsworth (Lib Dem, Kingsthorpe), who previously opposed the scheme, said: “The new plans are an improvement. I’m pleased there’s some housing there, I just hope the store will not be open 24-hours.”
