A burglar broke into a Northampton pub in the early hours of Boxing Day and tried to steal cash from a fruit machine.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said the Fiddler’s pub in Wellingborough Road was broken into just after 1am on Saturday, December 26.

“A man tried to steal cash from a fruit machine by the bar, but he was disturbed by the pub’s owner. The thief then smashed a window in the pub’s front door so he could escape,” he said.

“He was white, between 5ft 8in and 5ft 10in and slim. He was wearing a baseball cap and a dark blue or black hooded top with the hood up. It is believed there were people outside the pub at the time who may have seen the man escaping,” he added.

Witnesses, or anyone who knows anything about this incident can call Northamptonshire Police on 101.
