There are major tailbacks on the A45 after a crash on an exit slip road.

Traffic has been brought to a standstill on a major route into Northampton after reports of a minibus coming off the road.

An exit slip road is closed and one lane is also shut westbound on the A45 Nene Valley Way at the Barnes Meadow Interchange.

Congestion on the carriageway is queuing back to Great Billing Interchange.

Eyewitnesses have reported seeing a minibus or van coming off the base of the exit slip road there and ending up in a set of bushes.

Keith Sharp, who has just driven past the scene, said: “I could see a minibus or a van of some sort.

“There must have been five or six police cars, three fire engines.

“It has caused a hell of a tailback.”

A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue said three fire engines have been sent to the scene including it’s Technical Rescue Vehicle.
