The police helicopter was scrambled and people have been advised to remain vigilant in Duston after reports of a man carrying a samurai sword.
Northamptonshire Police told the Chronicle & Echo it had received a 999 call this morning about a person carrying a large bladed weapon in Millway south.
A force spokeswoman said: “We attended with officers and helicopters. We searched the area and could not find any man meeting that description.
“If anyone does see anything suspicious then they should call us immediately.”
Schools in the area were warned about the incident, but remain open as usual.
Headteacher of nearby Millway Primary School, Andrew Debenham, said: “We were notified of a potential security issue within the Duston area.
“Senior staff monitored the school premises until we were advised the situation had been resolved.”
One concerned parent posted on social media: “There were police everywhere and one came into the school. It was so scary and I was so worried.”
