BREAKING NEWS: Man appears in court charged with drink-driving and causing serious injury to paramedic in Northampton

A man has appeared in court charged with causing a serious injury to a paramedic by dangerous driving near a petrol station in Northampton.

Alexsandrs Saraborkins, aged 30, of Greatmeadow, Northampton, has appeared at Northampton Magistrates’ Court facing charges of arson, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving a motor vehicle without insurance and driving while above the alcohol limit.

He was remanded into custody and is set to appear at Northampton Crown Court on May 13.

Michael Ryan, the paramedic injured in the incident at the BP Garage in Harborough Road, Kingsthorpe, is in hospital after having surgery to pin his leg after suffering multiple fractures.

Mr Ryan has been a paramedic with the the East Midlands Ambulance Service for one year and seven months.
