A police spokesman said officers were called out to a terraced property following reports of smoke coming from the rear of the house and the chimney.

A fire in the living room of the house was extinguished by firefighters, however Rothersthorpe Road was closed in both directions on Thursday afternoon.

A police spokesman said it was “too early” to establish whether the man’s cause of death was suspicious. A post mortem is due to be carried out today.

Officers are keen to speak with anyone who may have been in the area at the time or may have any information.

Anyone with any information can call Northamptonshire Police on 101. Alternatively, they can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
