Wellingborough Norse, the partner company that carries out environmental services on behalf of the council, has started an action plan of events to inform residents in the Victoria area about how they can help to keep their local environment clean and tidy, and the consequences on anyone committing environmental offences.

Leaflets have been delivered to properties in the Victoria area and posters have been put up in public places, informing occupiers that depositing side rubbish and general waste is classified as fly-tipping.

There is also an opportunity for residents to go along to the Wellingborough Norse drop-in shop every alternate Thursday from 1pm until 3pm, which will be located inside the Victoria Centre at 50-60 Palk Road.

This will give residents an opportunity to speak with a representative of Norse and to report any issues or concerns that fall within the remit of Wellingborough Norse services.

The next drop-in session is due to take place on Thursday, October 20, and will run every other Thursday until November 24.

Stephen Dunkley, cleansing manager for Wellingborough Norse, said: “There is a continuing concern that litter, wheeled bins and general waste are being left out permanently on footways and parking areas within the Victoria area.

“These bins and waste not only make the local area look unsightly but can also be a potential hazard to pedestrians, and have a detrimental effect on the local environment.

“If you have any large items (furniture, electrical goods, etc.) to dispose of please note that Wellingborough Norse operate a bulky item collection service - £35.60 for up to five items, or free of charge to householders receiving council tax or housing benefit.

“For further details about this or if you have any other queries about waste and recycling please telephone us on 01933 234520 or email [email protected].

“We hope that residents in the Victoria area will work with us to help make a difference to the environmental quality of Wellingborough.”
