Thousands enjoy fireworks at Northampton Saints
A chorus of oohs and aahs filled Franklin's Gardens last night as another spectacular fireworks display lit up the sky above Northampton.
More than 5,000 people braved the forecasted showers to attend this year's colourful display on Guy Fawkes night, held at the home of Northampton rugby for the third year running.
Following a spectacular opening, to the Rocky theme tune, a noisy display thrilled the crowds.
After the disappointment of missing the fireworks last year, David Boyes, aged 37, and his daughter Alyssa, aged seven, were delighted to have seats for this year's display.
Father and daughter had to watch the fireworks from Sixfields last November, after the display sold out.
David, from Duston, said: "I thought they were really good. It was very theatrical because the fireworks were timed with the music.
"We will definitely come back next year."
Paul Botterill, aged 46, attended the show with his daughter Ellie, aged six, whose favourite fireworks were "the silver ones".
Paul, from East Hunsbury, said: "I love fireworks and we really enjoyed it.
"We were a little bit late though because my little baby was sick on the way, so I had to drive home first.
"We missed the first 10 minutes but we still really enjoyed it."
Attending the display for the first time was Tracey Karabin and her two sons Alfie, aged five, and Regan, aged 10.
Tracey, from Spinney Hill, Northampton, said: "Everybody said how well organised it was last year.
"We usually just go to a local one and this year we thought we would come to one that was specially organised."
And among the people huddled up in the South Stand were Kerry Page, aged 36, her son Sam, aged eight, a rugby player for Old Northamptonians.
Kerry, from Abington, Northampton, said: "I thought it was superb.
"It is the first time we have been so we will be coming again."
Also with them was Sam's grandfather, Blair Davies, aged 62, who added: "I wish it was a bigger crowd but I thought it was great.
"What the Saints are doing for the town is wonderful."
Limited tickets are still available for the second firework display at Franklin's Gardens tonight.
