Ashton news is hard to swallow
Heineken Cup round one. Munster V Saints at Thomond Park. Lee Dickson and Chris Ashton.
CHRIS ASHTON is on his way out of Franklin’s Gardens and he’s 9/4 to score on his Saracens debut and swallow dive, according to Ladbrokes.
The winger is 7/1 to be the top try scorer in the 2012/13 Premiership season and he’s 5/4 to score against his old club Saints, who he leaves at the end of this season. He’s 12/1 to receive a yellow card against Jim Mallinder’s side.
The bookies also chalk up his famous swallow dive at 20/1 to be officially banned by Saracens’ management.
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Ashton’s swallow dive is a fan favourite.
“The odds suggest he’ll continue to celebrate with the crowd pleaser.”
The former Wigan Warriors man is 33/1 to be named IRB World Player of the Year in 2012.
Murray is cut
Andy Murray is now as short as 9/2 third favourite with Paddy Power and Coral to win the Australian Open after cruising into the third round yesterday – although he remains a best of 11/2 elsewhere.
The world number four never looked back from a lightning-fast start as he recorded a 6-1 6-4 6-4 victory over Edouard Roger-Vasselin and he’ll next meet unseeded Michael Llodra.
Boylesports, BetVictor, Stan James and William Hill are among the firms that make Murray 11/2 while many others offer 5/1 that he claims his first Grand Slam title.
THE Cobblers hit rock bottom after last weekend’s demoralising 5-2 home defeat to Southend and it’ll be very tough to pick themselves up for tomorrow’s vital clash with Barnet at Sixfields.
But the bookmakers still make Town favourites to win it, Cobblers being a best price of 8/5 (Sky Bet) to take all three points.
Izale McLeod is favourite to net first (11/2), followed by Town’s Saido Berahino (6/1).
Reds to run riot at Bolton
LIVERPOOL love playing Bolton and I’m confident they’ll help themselves to another win at the Reebok Stadium this weekend.
Liverpool have won the last 10 meetings between the two – scoring 26 goals and shipping just five – and they’re a tasty 7/4 to win without conceding in tomorrow’s televised clash.
Sure, Kenny Dalglish’s side have struggled to find the net but this weekend they come up against the worst defence in the Premier League.
The Trotters have quite simply been abysmal at home, taking just four points from 10 games and conceding 24 times in the process, so they should be there for the taking for the Reds, who need a win to boost their top-four hopes.
Although it’s arguable a run of wins dating back to the 2006/07 season doesn’t have much relevance, the Trotters do generally have a terrible record against any of the established ‘top six’ in recent years and although Liverpool are currently seventh in the table, you can still include them in that group.
In the last 31 league games they’ve played against United, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool since the start of the 2009/10 season, they’ve only avoided defeat five times – none of those have come against the Anfield club.
