An auction house in Northamptonshire is bucking the economic trend after recording its best sale in five years thanks to a hoard of antique pistols and swords.
The rare collection of 30 flintlock pistols was among the lots under the hammer at JP Humbert Auctioneers in Towcester, fetching between £600 and £900 each.

The sale also included 16th and 17th century swords put up for auction by a private collector in Oxford that reached a similar price, with the entire catalogue fetching a total of £90,000.

The auctioneers also sold a Nazi death ring issued by SS leader Heinrich Himmler for £2,200 plus premium after rare Nazi items led to a surge in demand for German memorabilia put up for auction.

An 8ft by 4ft Nazi war ensign also reached £520 and a Nazi pin badge raised £180.
