Dog-lovers in Northamptonshire clubbed together to help an abandoned dog get back on his feet after a car accident left him with a fractured leg and shoulder.
Border terrier cross Rocky was taken to the RSPCA’s Northamptonshire branch by a member of the public after he was hit by a car and his story was shared on Facebook.
However, his owner never came forward to collect him.
Rocky’s future looked uncertain until around £900 of donations from charitable locals poured in for the poorly pooch, helping tackle his vet bills which had entered the hundreds.
Fundraising manager at the RSPCA Northamptonshire, Jaymi Wilmin, said: “During the initial stages of Rocky’s treatment, it was a possibility that he would either need surgery to fix his fractures or face amputation of his leg.
“Luckily for Rocky he did not need any surgery as the team worked closely with Northlands Veterinary Hospital.”
During his recovery and a six month wait for a new home, Rocky “The Rockstar,” as he came to be nicknamed, lived with Michelle, an RSPCA foster carer.
She said: “Rocky is such a loving dog, he was great with my children and was best friends with my own dog.
“He loved going on long walks and visiting the office, probably because of the amount of fuss he’d get.”
She went on to say: “When he finally found his ‘forever’ home, my family missed him dearly, as did all of the team in the office.
“He was so well loved, but we are all happy that he finally found the right home.”
RSPCA’s Northamptonshire branch is encouraging all dog-lovers to take part in their Big Walkies event on September 20 as a way to raise money for dogs that have had a tough start to life just like Rocky.
All dogs will receive and bandana to wear on the day, while their owners will get a matching t-shirt.
Walkies is a sponsored event so every person and dog taking part is encouraged to raise as much money as they can, which will help more animals who have been abandoned, neglected and mistreated in Northamptonshire.
A sponsorship total of £80 will pay for food and shelter for one of the Branch’s dogs for one week.
