Road users were faced with delays this morning after a lorry carrying meat caught fire on the A45 eastbound between Higham Ferrers and Stanwick.

Police were called at 3.30am to close the road after the lorry’s tractor unit, which was detached from the front of the vehicle, went up in flames.

The road was blocked, while police also closed off the A6 junction and one lane of the A45 westbound to allow a crane to take away the vehicle.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
