A violent thug has been jailed for four years after kicking his way into his ex-partner's home and repeatedly stabbing her in front of their one-year-old baby.
Darren Taggart, 28, of Gunthorpe Place, Corby, admitted stabbing his former partner at least four times in the early hours of February 20.

Jenna Latchford, prosecuting, said the attack left her with "very nasty injuries" to her knee, thigh, side and face.

Taggart broke into her home at 4am after a night of heavy drinking. He demanded to have their one-year-old son and when she asked him to leave, he started stabbing her.

Taggart stabbed her in her left side then scratched her left cheek with a potato knife.

He then stabbed her legs several times as she tried to reach a telephone.

Taggart was previously convicted of assaulting her in January 2008.
Judge Ian Alexander QC sentenced Taggart to four years in prison, with a further four years of extended licence.

He said: "There's clear evidence that there's significant risk of you committing further offences against this lady. There is significant risk she would suffer serious injury."
