A traffic monitoring camera belonging to police has been stolen from a bridge over the M1 in Northamptonshire.
The equipment was locked securely on the bridge overlooking the motorway on the Nobottle Road in Whilton, near Daventry, when it was stolen sometime between Saturday and Tuesday.

It is believed the thieves may not have known that the equipment belonged to Northamptonshire Police and that it may have been taken for the scrap value of the metal casing.

A police spokeswoman said: "The theft was discovered when we went to perform some maintenance on it."

Officers said they would like to speak to anyone with any information regarding the theft.

They can call police on 03000 111 222 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
