A seven-year-old gold medallist with his eyes on future Paralympic games has appealed for funding so he can compete in the Dwarf Athletic Association World Games next year.
Nima Ghavami, who was diagnosed with restricted growth condition Achondroplasia when he was six months old, has already won two gold medals for his age group in running and frisbee-throwing, and silver in two swimming events at the DAA National Games this year.
The Wootton primary school pupil, who attends the National Games every year, now hopes to take part in the 2009 World Games in Northern Ireland.
Angela Ghavami, Nima's mum, said: "It's the one chance he gets to excel on a level playing field with his peers.
"The people we have been meeting are getting ready for the Paralympics and it's something we've always talked about.
"I'd be over the moon if he could go to the Paralympics because it would allow him to achieve what every kid should be able to achieve.
"I'm all about making sure all the opportunities are open to him.
"We're looking at £400 to go to the World Games so it's not a huge amount but for us, it's on top of everything else."
Nima, who started football training with a mainstream team last night, has been watching the Beijing Olympics and also wants to start cycling but needs a custom-made bike because of his condition.
"Unfortunately, they don't make them in the right way for him," Angela said. "Nima has been riding a baby bike for a while now and he wants a proper bike. We're now on the lookout to get a custom-made bike for him.
Anyone who can offer any help to Nima can contact Angela by calling Northampton 674767 or emailing angelaghavami@yahoo.co.uk.
