They are appealing for witnesses following the incident in Northampton on Friday when the woman was driving her Fiat Bravo along the Towcester Road towards the town centre.
As she left the small roundabout near Kentucky Fried Chicken between 12.4
5pm and 1pm and joined the single lane of traffic heading towards the St Peters Way roundabout, a white Mercedes van attempted to force his way in front of her car.
The woman continued to drive slowly forwards and stopped at a pelican crossing, with the van behind her.
At this point the male driver got out of his van and jumped onto the bonnet of her car. He jumped on it several times before getting back into his van.
The van then continued to follow the car in the slow moving traffic, with the driver gesticulating at the woman the whole time.
On reaching the roundabout both vehicles turned left, heading to St James, where the driver of the Bravo lost sight of the van.
Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident. Call 08453 700700 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
