A Romanian man who used a forged Italian passport to get work in Northamptonshire has been jailed and faces deportation.
Teodor Diaconu, 24, was arrested when immigration officers swooped on Netto Foods' industrial unit in Drayton Fields, Daventry, on August 11.

As they were checking the immigration status of the staff working there, Diaconu produced a forged Italia
n passport in another man's name and was arrested.

Alex Bull, prosecuting at Northampton Crown Court, said his locker was then searched and a forged Romanian driving licence, also in a false name, was found.

When Netto's company records were checked, they showed he had used the fake EU passport to gain work since October 2006, earning more than £38,000 before tax.

Judge Richard Bray said: "I just wish they had more careful scrutiny at these places because they must have known he was potentially an illegal immigrant.

"Far too many people are being employed with these false documents. This defendant should be deported. He's done very well out of this country."

By having an EU passport, Diaconu was able to stay and work in the UK despite over-staying his visa.

Diaconu, of Oakley Street, The Mounts, Northampton, pleaded guilty to two offences of having false documents with intent and was jailed for a year.

Judge Bray added: "I will be making a recommendation for deportation in any event because you do not have any close ties to this country."

Richard Holloway, defending, said Diaconu had worked hard, paying income tax and national insurance since his tourist visa ran out in October 2006.

If you were in another Country, committing a crime, you would not have the luxury of our Prison Service. By the fact the guy had a false passport, that is evidence he is not legitimate. If he was being persecuted in Romania, then he can claim asylum.

As a tax payer I am tired of having to spend my hard earned cash on a system which is frightened of taking preventive action in case they upset someone. By someone I mean other ethnic groups. If I was in Saudi Arabia and committed a crime, I would not get a nice bed, breakfast, lodgings for free I would end up in Jail where there is no 'hand-outs'. Furthermore, they would probably have their hand chopped off; a good preventative Im sure.

I agree with Martyn Robinson, we need to reconsider who we vote for at the next election. I never thought I would agree with the BNP manifesto, however, as someone who has worked for 30 years, consistently, I want to be able to claim from the state, should I need it. Each time I have been made redundant I have been informed that I was not entitled to any money from the state. This was due to the amount of savings I had. However, if I was an immigrant, I could get money for housing, clothing vouchers, food vouchers, free doctors, free hospitals. This is just not fair.

Great Britain used to be great; not anymore. Too many people bleeding the system dry. And MPs too weak to change policy which will prevent my contributions being bled dry.

I have only commented on this site on 2 previous occassions. I am enraged that, yet again, Im paying for all of this.

I attempted to gain entry into Australia for a short vacation (6 weeks). I am a law abiding citizen, however, their rules for gaining a VISA is so tough, I was put off straight away. Im not saying that Australia has got it right, but they are very choosy on who they let in and do have methods to chase up those who outstay their welcome there.

The employer who employed the Romanian should be fined. Under re

Why deport him AFTER his sentence, chuck him out now? He has no legal right to be here so why keep him here? I'm sorry if he feels persecuted in his own country but I for one am beginning to feel persecuted in my own country. Persecuted that is by the 'spongers' who think they have a right to stay in our country when their visas run out and to take the jobs from UK residents.

As Romania is member state, this guy has every right to work here, give him a fine for the passport offence and then leave him to become a valued member of our community as will his children when born.
