Man charged with van theft after shopper knocked down

A Northampton man has been charged with the theft of a van after a stolen vehicle knocked down a woman shopper in a busy high street.
Martin McBrien, 22, of Mushroomfield Road, Ecton Brook, appeared at Lincoln Magistrates Court charged with the aggravated theft of a vehicle and document offences, including driving while disqualified.

The case was adjourned and he was remanded in custody to return to the court on Monday.

The incident happened on Tuesday. A 46-year-old woman suffered bruising to her leg, the back of her head and whiplash, after she was knocked down at about 10am by a white Mercedes sprinter van in the High Street, Stamford.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact PC Louth at Grantham police station on 01476 402222.
