Northamptonshire basked in the hottest day of the year as temperatures went close to 30C on Sunday.
As thousands of holidaymakers jetted off to seek the sun abroad on the first weekend of the holidays, temperatures in Northamptonshire hit 28.5C.

MeteoGroup UK recorded a high of 30C in London on Sunday afternoon, topping Friday's 29C (84F) heat.

And as most of England and Wales enjoyed high temperatures, seaside resorts reported a huge influx of day-trippers.

MeteoGroup forecaster Brendan Jones said: "This is the hottest spell of the summer so far."

Following serious congestion on all major routes on Saturday as the summer getaway rush began, the Highways Agency said roads were back to "normal for a lovely Sunday".

Some delays were adding a few minutes to journeys on the M1, M5, A35 and around Birmingham, but there were no major accidents.

The heatwave is expected to be broken by thunderstorms bringing torrential rain to some areas tomorrow night.

Mr Jones said: "It will turn more unsettled for the remainder of the week."
