A have-a-go hero who tried to foil an armed robbery at a Northampton shop has been praised by readers of the Chron's website.
The incident took place at the Londis store in Farmhill Road, Southfields, Northampton, between 6.15pm and 6.30pm on Friday, March 21.

A man walked into the store and grabbed a 24-pack of lager. He then went to run out but a male customer stood in front of the door. The offender then brandished a knife in the man's face before running off.

Since the article was published on this site, the customer who tried to stop the thief has come forward as Glen Riley from Southfields, see the comments below.

Impressed readers have labelled him a hero and called for him to be given the freedom of the town.

Police are still appealing for witnesses and have issued a description of the offender. He is described as mid 20s, of medium build, 5ft 5in to 5ft 8in, wearing a light-coloured hooded top, grey jogging bottoms. He had a red T-shirt over his face and wore black gloves.

Grow up. All he did was stand in a doorway to stop somebody stealing 4 cans of lager. Wow. A real hero would save somebodys life. Not a four pack. Fickle people.

The man had a knife. Big deal. This 'hero' didn't stand in knowing he had a knife. What's heroic about his action? Heroic would be saving a childs life, or preventing a serious accident. Not attempting to stop some lout stealing some cans of lager.

More balls than me? I would quite happily step in if it involved a serious matter. The fact is, what's heroic about attempting to stop a lout stealing lager?
