Five fire crews teamed up to tackle two house fires in the Duston area of Northampton overnight.
The second fire broke out shortly before 8am in the roof of a two-storey semi-detached home in Bants Lane.

Crews from The Mounts, Moulton, Mereway and Wellingborough attended the scene together with the aerial appliance from Moulton.

The blaze came just hours after another fire in nearby Porlock Close, Duston.

A woman and her dog were rescued from a fire which badly damaged a two-storey terraced home in the Northampton cul-de-sac.

Firefighters from The Mounts together with two crews from Moulton were called to the blaze shortly after 12.20am.

The kitchen was severely damaged by fire and the rest of the property was smoke damaged by the blaze which was started by cooking being left unattended.

The woman occupant was taken by paramedics to Northampton General Hospital.

Firefighters also rescued a pet dog from the property.

The fire service's victim support unit also attended the incident and an investigation team was due to return to the house for a further inspection today.
