The family of Northamptonshire lad killed in a road accident have received a letter of condolence from Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
Jamie Hay died last week after being hit by a car on May 3 as he walked home from a wedding reception.

Today more than 300 supporters friends and family were expected at the funeral of the 21-year-old United fan from Danesholme. They were expected to wear replica United shirts.

In a touching gesture, the club's manager Alex Ferguson took time out of planning for the Champions League final next week to sign a special framed letter to Jamie's parents, Pauline and Darren.

In the letter, he writes: "I was recently informed and deeply saddened to hear of Jamie's passing.

"On behalf of everyone here at Manchester United I would like to express our sincere condolences to you and your family.

"We know that the days and months ahead will be the most difficult but trust you will find comfort in God and with each other at this time.

"The pain of losing someone dear to you is hard but the one thing that can't be taken away from you is the wonderful memories that you will have of your time together.

"I know that words seem of little help but trust that these words of comfort, and the knowledge you are in our thoughts and prayers, will help you sustain you in your sorrow."

The letter was sent after Jamie's great-uncle Stevie Sheridan, from Kingsthorpe Avenue, contacted the club to see if there was anything they could do.

He said: "It's a very lovely letter. The club were fantastic."
