Rush hour motorists were forced to seek alternative routes following the discovery of a body at the side of a road near the Northamptonshire border.
Major roads in the region were closed for much of the day after the body was found this morning.

The M45 westbound was closed from Junction 17 of the M1 and both carriageways of the A45 were closed between the M45 and B4455 after council workers clearing a grass verge discovered the body of a man at 9am.

Roads were cordoned off while police examined the scene for forensic evidence.

A post-mortem was due to be carried out tonight.

The man was described as black and in his late 30s. He wore faded blue jeans, sandy-coloured laced boots and a white polo shirt with horizontal orange and brown stripes.

He was wearing a Swatch watch and had closely cropped hair with stubble and evidence of a moustache.

Police want to hear from anyone who noticed suspicious activity in the area in the 24 hours before the body was found.

The death was being treated as unexplained.

As well as the closure of the A45 between the Thurlaston and Stretton roundabouts, the A4071 was closed between Princethorpe and the A45.

The westbound entry sliproad at Junction 1 of the M45 was also closed.
Diversions were implemented via the M6 at Junction 19 of the M1 west to Junction 2.

Westbound traffic on the M45 was u-turned onto the M45 eastbound.
