£1,000 !! Compensation
£100 !! Costs
Where is the fine. It seems that he has suffered no more penalty than if he had carelessly tripped a person and been sued in the civil court.
Surely the costs of police investigation, CPS, courts, Admin must heve been far more than £100

Thank goodness the FA have a plan. I'm sure it will be as successful as their anti drink driving and anti racism programmes.

For someone of apparently previous good behaviour it sounds like a disgusting act of violence. Did the attacked man get an apology from the seemingly punch happy soccer dad?

meakins had been previously attacked by nicholson and not reacted, but after much godeing and verbal abuse reacted like most men would. to me it seems as though nicholson wanted to prove a point because of meakins's build an stature, clearly he wanted to line his pocket. People should NOT PROVOKE others and not expect consequence for there actions.

Duane
Your comments throw a new light on this. Do you mean he was physically attacked on a previous occasiion or that there had only been an 'altercation' as stated in court ? If ther had been a physical attack surely this would have been ststed in court as mitigation.

I can completely backup Duane's statement. Meakins was physically and verbally assaulted previously by Nicholson, and Meakins walked away without reacting. Obviously the papers aren't going to report that are they? They would rather paint a picture of the accused as being a beast who acted with agression, makes for a better story. All I will say is don't believe every thing you read in the paper, and if you do then bear in mind it's probably only half a story! I don't blame Meakings for what he did, maybe it will make Nicholson think twice about instigating needless arguments and pitching for fights at football matches. As for setting an example to his sons, Meakins is a model father with no previous records, a long happy marriage and hard worker who has never claimed a penny from the government....again, only my opinion, but Nicholson should be paying Meakins compensation and court fees, not the other way round!!!!
