Around 160 houses in a Northampton estate were without water after a burst main yesterday.
Residents in Nethermead Court, Lings, woke up to find no water or low pressure after the pipe burst at about 8am.

Anglian Water worked to repair the fault, with the water coming back on shortly after noon but told customers to run taps and flush their system to clear the brown water.

An Anglian Water spokesman said clearing the discolouration would cost pence and that the brown water was not dangerous.

He said: "There was a burst water main at about 8am and there was around 160 properties either off water or with low pressure.

"Brown water is not unheard of when you have a burst water main and it's perfectly harmless.

We recommend people turn their taps on to flush it through. We also suggest people collect the water running off and water their plants with it."
