Big rise in theft of number plates

More than 100 cars have been fitted with tamper proof screws after a 98 per cent increase in number plate theft in north Northamptonshire.
There have been 129 reports of stolen number plates in the area since January 1, almost double the amount in 2007 when 65 thefts were reported.

A mobile police station will be at supermarkets in Wellingborough, Corby and Rushden in the next week offering shoppers the chance to have the screws fitted free of charge.

What about the cars with bonded plates? And why aren't the victims of these thefts hearing their car alarms go off when their cars are tampered with?

Answers on a postcard marked "I can't be bothered to protect my own property til it's too late" to...
