An investigations has been launched after residents were last night ordered to stay indoors following a large barn fire in a Northamptonshire village.
Firefighters were called out to Humphreys Lodge Farm, in Pitsford Road, Chapel Brampton, at about 5.30pm after reports of a large fire.

Fire crews initially said there was asbestos in the barn's roof and a large cloud of smoke drifted towards the village.

Residents were asked by firefighters to stay indoors and to close all windows.

Three fire crews from Northampton were sent to tackle the fire but the operation was scaled down later in the evening.

Speaking just after 10pm, a spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "The incident has now been scaled down to one appliance from Moulton which is keeping a watching brief.

"The smoke plumes have now died down and there is no hazard from asbestos at the moment."

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
