Police have revealed that the person killed in the four-vehicle accident which closed a section of the A43 between Northampton and Kettering was a 33-year-old man.
The man from Leicester died in the collision near the Mawlsey roundabout at 11.45am on Thursday and involved a lorry, two vans and a car.

A VW Passat and a Ford Transit van, both travelling towards Northampton, were involved in a minor shunt.

A Nissan Vanette travelling in the same direction behind these two vehicles was then involved in what police said was also a very minor collision with a trailer behind the Ford Transit.

However, the Nissan then crossed to the opposite carriageway and was in collision with a Scania Tipper.

The Nissan driver, also a 33-year-old man from Leicester, was air-lifted to Walsgrave hospital in Coventry where he is in a serious condition.

No-one else was injured in the collision.

Officers in the Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses, who are asked to contact police on 08453 700700 or call the Drivewatch Hotline on 0800 174615.

It is very sad to read this and I would think most peoples thoughts go to the relatives, what is interesting is we are constantly informed that speed cameras are placed where accidents happen to make the road safe and not to raise revenue. Yet here and in other stretchs of the A43 there have been many accidents Hannington cross roads for one, just how many cameras are there none but travel on the A6 Finedon/A14, A14 Kettering ringroad mobile safety camera (plus fixed) on a wide road/dual carriage way says it all really. Revenue.

Can I ask the editor how you are allowed to publish close up photographs of a vehicle that has been involved in a fatality only a day after it happened when the police usually treat this material as highly confidential? Where did these photos come from? I find this distasteful that you publish these across the web when this man's family have only just found out he died and there may be friends and family not even aware he has died yet.

As a friend and collegue of one of the people involved in this accident I am appalled and disgusted that Northampton Chronicle & Echo felt the need to publish the photos of this accident, especially considering the police asked for photos not to be published (as quoted on the Northampton Evening Telegraph website). Perhaps the Chronicle & Echo should consider whether they'd publish the photos if it were a member of their family or friends involved in the accident?

I'd also like to add a comment made on the other news website by someone naming himself Chief Wiggum. It reads:

As an ADI I am concerned that people still blame roads for crashes rather than the poor judgement of drivers that use them and their inability to control their vehicles and themselves.

I was overtaken yesterday AT THE HANNINGTON CROSSROADS by a woman driving a BMW X5 (kids on board) who was frustrated by my pupil driving at the 60mph speed limit!

I agree that A43 should be dualled, but not just so that un-trained drivers can kill us at higher speeds.
