The A14 was closed at Kelmarsh this morning following a crash involving two lorries.
A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Police siad the road was closed for several hours following the accident, which took place shortly after 5.30am.
She said: "The A14 westbound between junctions 2 and 1 was closed for around three hours early this morning following a collision between two lorries.
"The collision took place at around 5.35am and resulted in one of the lorries jack knifing and a large amount of fuel being spilled onto the road.
"Neither of the drivers are belived to be seriously injured as a result of the collision.
"Both lorries and the fuel have now been cleared from the road and the carriageway has reopened."
Diversions were in place taking traffic along the A508 to Market Harborough, west on the A4304 to Husbands Bosworth and south on the A5199.
Traffic backed up to Rothwell and motorists were urged to avoid the area.
