A new £300,000 extension to a village primary school includes a new classroom that has been named in memory of a parent who died last year.
A special ceremony has been held at Little Houghton CofE Primary School to celebrate the opening of a new pre-school, library and classroom.
To fund the redevelopment, pupils, parents and staff raised £30,000 from a range of fund-raising activities.
A total of £13,000 came from a JustGiving page which was set up in memory of parent-of-two Alison Gibson, who lost her battle with breast cancer last April.
Money was also raised from a sponsored “lock-in” that staff at the school took part in last year. The opening ceremony, which took place earlier this month, was attended by the Bishop of Brixworth, the Rt Rev John Holbrook.
Carolyn Fairbrother, headteacher at Little Houghton Primary , said: “The redevelopment makes a significant difference in provision for the children.
“The classroom being named after Alison leaves a permanent legacy for a young mother and it is a fantastic classroom with probably the best views in the county.
“It is a very light space and all the changes have really modernised the school,” she added.
