20 questions with Hardeep Singh Kohli
Hardeep Singh Kohli
AN evening of entertainment and cookery will be served up in Northampton next month when broadcaster and Celebrity Masterchef finalist Hardeep Singh Kohli performs at the Royal & Derngate.
The one night show will see Hardeep order a takeaway live on stage for delivery at the theatre before racing against time to cook his own feast before the meal arrives.
There will also be recipe tips, funny anecdotes and stories from his Scottish and Indian heritage.
Some audience members will even be invited on stage to sample both meals.
Hardeep Singh Kohli will take to the Royal stage with Indian Takeaway on February 24, a one-night show which is set to start at 7.45pm.

1) How did you get into television?
By chance. I was an audience member for a few debating shows in Scotland. And some folk I went to school with ended up working in TV.
2) What do you like better, writing or presenting?
Writing I love. And presenting radio is a joy.
3) You reached the final in Celebrity Masterchef, have you kept up that standard of cooking since the show?
Funnily enough, I’ve probably improved since then. That opened me up to a whole new world of food. It changed my life.
4) Who are your favourite writers?
Too many to list. I love Ian Rankin, Burns, Shakespeare, Carol Ann Duffy, Le Carre, Atwood.
5) What book did you last read?
I have Carol Ann Duffy’s The World’s Wife by my bedside.
6) If you had not decided on going into television, what career would you have followed?
I’d have been a barrister.
7) What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
It’s not what you know...
8) What does your perfect day involve?
A good meal, stimulating work, my friends and some music. I’m quite easily pleased.
9) What meal do you most like to cook at home?
I get bored easily so rarely cook the same dish. Anything involving braising or roasting meat works for me.
10) What do you find most difficult to cook?
I’m not a natural pudding man, so I find that more challenging. I don’t have a sweet tooth.
11) What has been your proudest moment?
The birth of my kids.
12) What is your worst habit?
My relationship with my Blackberry.
13) What are your pet hates?
Rudeness. And feet on seats on public transport.
14) What music do you like to listen to?
I have a very eclectic taste in music given that I’m very old. I’m listening to a lot of female folk right now and a good dose of Dolly Parton.
15) What is your most treasured possession?
I’m not that fussed about possessions. I have a painting called World Service by Tony Scullion that I love. I don’t need to own it; just so as I know it exists and is on a wall somewhere, I’m happy.
16) What has been your best moment?
Seeing my kids grow up.
17) What has been your worst moment?
Not seeing them as much these days.
18) What makes you laugh?
Alan Partridge. Billy Connolly. A girl I know.
19) Who has most inspired you in your life?
Strangely, everyday people are inspirational. Women who raise three kids on income support; nurses who tend to folk for a very basic wage; and my parents.
20) What ambition would you most like to fulfil?
My ambition is to no longer have ambitions...
