Artist honoured at new exhibition
A NEW exhibition will be held to remember a Northampton artist whose painting of Windsor Castle is thought to be owned by the Queen.
The display will feature the work of landscape artist Colin Vokes from St James, who died aged 66 in hospital on October 11.
His wife, Mary, aged 52, has organised the exhibition of his work at Artie Fartie in Unit 11, Nene Court, The Embankment, Wellingborough.
She said: “Colin made me promise that I would do this before he died. Art was always his life-long passion, as well as music and this is a way for his memory to live on. The exhibition is a tribute to him.”
Mr Vokes painted more than 100 pictures in his lifetime and many were sold across the world.
The grandfather-of-nine owned Vokes Hair salon in Duston with his wife, and was also a member of local band, Speermint, which formed in 1975.
The exhibition will run until February 10, from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 4pm on Saturday.
