Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard and Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien are top targets for Manchester City.
City boss Mark Hughes was asked to draw up his wishlist and hand it to the club's new owners to prepare for the next transfer window.

Hughes believes he has a real chance of landing either one or both players.

The pair would cost at least £80m but that is no problem for the Abu Dhabi United Group.

A City source told the News of the World: "Mark knows money is no object but he also wants to bring in the kind of players who will fit in with his plans, not just spend massive money for the sake of it.

"Gerrard and Essien in the same midfield would be incredible.

"They would fit together perfectly and wouldn't have to take time adapting to the English game in the same way as any big foreign name."
