Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric admits that he thought long and hard about coming to the Premier League following the horrorific injury suffered by fellow Croatia international Eduardo.
The £16.5m signing was playing for Dinamo Zagreb on the day the Arsenal player suffered his sickening compound fracture in a Premier League match at Birmingham.

Eduardo had been due to join Modric in the Croatia squad for Euro 2008, and the Spurs new boy said seeing the injury on TV hit him badly.

However, he has put that behind him and says he wants to help Tottenham to success.

Modric said: "Seeing this catastrophe unfold got me down. Dinamo had a match later in the afternoon and it was very difficult for everyone to concentrate.

"You think about things like that. But if I worried about it too much I'd be afraid to go on the pitch.

"I know Eduardo very well and I am sure we will have time to socialise together off the field, even though he plays for our biggest rivals."
