Five key members of Kettering Town's title-winning squad have been given until this weekend to decide whether they want to stay.
The Poppies are waiting for answers on contract offers made to John Dempster, Brett Solkhon, Luke Graham, David Bridges and Craig Westcarr.
Terms have already been agreed with Lee Harper, Nicky Eaden and Tommy Jaszczun – all subject to deals bei
ng finalised – while Chris Beardsley, Jean-Paul Marna, David Galbraith, Guy Branston and Jon Brady are under contract at the A-Line Arena.
Andy Hall and Nick Bussey have been released along with Anthony Robinson and Gary Mills as the former Rushden & Diamonds midfielder links up again with Graham Westley on his return to Stevenage Borough.
Poppies boss Mark Cooper said: "We might have to get two out to bring one in for more quality.
"Watching the Conference play-off semi-finals has opened my eyes a little bit over the standard we need to reach next season.
"I'm looking at three or four signings – although we might have to wait over the summer until players are struggling to get contracts.
"I've identified targets at the moment. But we are not in a position to outbid anyone. We will need to stay patient and I'm used to all that."
