Five separate scorers hit the back of the net - several in spectacular style - as Gary McAllister's side claimed their first home league win of the season with a 5-2 triumph.
Two goals in a 10-minute spell put Leeds firmly in control at half-time.
Fabian Delph fired home a cracker from outside the box to give them the lead after 26 minutes.
And just 10 minutes later Alan Sheehan matched his effort with a thunderbolt effort to put Leeds two ahead.
In a dominant spell leading up to the break, Leeds could easily have snatched a third goal when Jermaine Beckford had an effort blocked and Luciano Becchio had a header tipped over by Crewe keeper Steve Collis.
But Jonathan Douglas wasted little time in extending Leeds' lead early in the second half with another long-range effort and then Beckford got himself on the scoresheet by heading home Andy Robinson's 67th minute cross to make it 4-0.
Robinson then struck in the 79th minute but the game ended in disappointment for the home side.
Lubomir Michalik was shown the red card for a second bookable offence, with Calvin Zola heading home Billy Jones' injury-time free-kick.
And then Crewe pulled another goal back through Eugen Bopp although it was too little too late to be anything other than a consolation.
