Former Leeds United striker Dougie Freedman took just 22 minutes to score on his Southend debut against Carlisle - but still ended up on the losing side.
Southend boss Steve Tilson handed a start to the veteran striker, whose goals for Leeds while on loan from Crystal Palace helped them into last season's play-off final.

The struggling Shrimpers made a last-gasp deadline day swoop to sign Freedman on a free transfer from Palace.

And he put the Shrimpers ahead after just 22 minutes at Carlisle, although John Ward's side levelled through a 63rd minute Danny Graham penalty after Peter Clarke's foul on Danny Livesey.

And Carlisle then grabbed a 79th minute winner when Cleveland Taylor netted from close range.
