NEIGHBOURS and friends joined a 100-year-old birthday girl to enjoy a tea party to mark the occasion.
Frances Parkinson, who reached the milestone yesterday, celebrated with her neighbours at the warden-controlled Marlow Court, in Corby, where she lives in her own flat.

Mrs Parkinson, born in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, came to Corby to be near her family about 30 years ago after the death of her husband William.

One of five grand-daughters, Brenda Harland said: “When she was younger she worked in big houses as a maid.

“She’s not as active as she used to be but still lives independently.

“She still does a lot of crochet and gives her work away to charity. She makes blankets that go all over the world to people who are not so well off.

“I wasn’t at the party as I was preparing for our family celebration, but I heard it went well.”

Mrs Parkinson has two children, five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
