BURLESQUE dancers, fire-breathers, circus performers and magicians will be among the entertainment at an event that will raise money for the Chronicle & Echo’s charity appeal.

Le Jardin Secret, at Sazerac Bar in Northampton town centre on Thursday, February 23, has been organised by Miss Northampton 2011, Gabriella Willmore, to raise money for the new £2.2 million haematology unit at Northampton General Hospital, which opened to patients this week.

As well as raising money towards the £700,000 still needed to fund the unit, the event will be the last Miss Willmore organises under her Miss Northampton crown, before handing it over to the new Miss Northampton on March 11.

She said: “I can’t believe how quickly the year has gone. When I got the call from the Miss England organisers to ask if I would come to the 2012 contest I couldn’t believe how quickly time had flown by.”

Miss Willmore said she had benefited greatly from her time in the role, including finding a new career path in event management as a result of organising a fund-raiser for the Chron and Macmillan’s appeal as part of the contest.

She said: “I will certainly be sad to see my crown go but I have really enjoyed my time as Miss Northampton. It’s a great confidence boost and I’ve met a lot of people in the town, which has been great. For me personally it has also opened up a new career path and I have set up my own events company called Demure, which puts on events at Sazerac every four months.

“It’s been fun and a really good year. I’d definitely recommend it to other girls.”

Miss Willmore, who will dance at the event, will be supported by some of her fellow Miss Northampton contestants, who also will be part of the entertainment.

She encouraged people to come along to the event, saying: “This will be completely different to other events that take place in the town, which I don’t think are as outrageous.

“It’s going to be an amazing night, and one like Northampton hasn’t seen before.”

Tickets for Le Jardin Secret cost £5 on the door.

The event, at Sazerac Bar in Castilian Street in the town centre, starts at 7.30pm and will include a charity raffle in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support as well as entertainment from burlesque dancers, singers, circus acts, magicians. ventriloquists and dwarf presenters.
